Billy Connolly (Boondock Saints) is signed on for The Hobbit. According to The Hollywood Reporter, Connolly is playing Dain Ironfoot, the cousin of Thorin Oakenshield (Richard Armitage) who heeds the call to war during the Battle of the Five Armies. The role is unlikely to be in the first film unless his part gets heavily expanded from what is in the book.
The first part (The Hobbit: An Unexpected Journey) releases on December 14th while part two (The Hobbit: There and Back Again) opens December 13th, 2013.
I would hope that people know Billy Connolly from more than just Boondock Saints.

I first found out about him on The Aristocrats. Man, that was a great movie....

I remember Billy Connolly from "Head of the Class," when he took over for Howard Hessman. I, of course, also know him from Boondock Saints. Honestly, I would much prefer them going ahead with Boondock Saints 3 than having him in the Hobbit. I know he died in the second one, but Rocco died in the first one, and he still ended up in the second.

Showing my age here. Ive known about him since he was only known in the UK when I lived there in the early 80s. Also know him from the show Head of The Class and was also in the movie The Last Samurai.
